However, I had underestimated Zannis’s focus and the well-known determination, evident to those who know him, to see things through, no matter how challenging they may initially seem. Gradually but steadily, the venue began to change. Or rather, it found its direction, moving ever closer, day by day, to the spirit of the Sea Satin so many of us were fortunate enough to experience in its heyday.
On our last three visits within the space of two months, we found it consistently full to capacity, with a well-mixed, lively crowd enjoying themselves wholeheartedly. The atmosphere felt genuine rather than staged, the music was on point, and the food remained impressively strong despite the demanding conditions. The team works tirelessly to navigate through the packed space with trays and plates, yet somehow everything arrives at the table promptly and in excellent condition.
That feeling peaked last Sunday, when a group of ten of us settled in for what turned into a full afternoon and evening. We ate, drank, danced and sang, with DJ Antonis Dimitriadis in top form behind the decks. We arrived around 3pm and only left at 8.30pm, and truth be told, we could easily have stayed longer. The whole place was buzzing, though perhaps not quite as much as we were.
We had such a good time that the messages in our WhatsApp group didn’t stop all the way back from Voula to Kifissia, traffic included. We are already looking forward to doing it all over again very soon and, trust me, this is not a group that gets carried away easily. We have been going out and travelling for years, so it takes something genuinely enjoyable to win us over.
Of course, nothing in this business happens by chance. After all, how many places in Athens can you think of that bring together the sea, impeccably fresh fish grilled to perfection, arguably some of the best meatballs in the country, an excellent wine list, seamless service, a magical sunset, quieter days for a more relaxed dining experience, and others that turn into full-blown parties?
As Zannis himself puts it, when something is driven by genuine care rather than purely commercial intent, it tends to find its way. And Athens clearly had room for a place like this. The response has followed, with the dining room filling up with a diverse, well-balanced crowd that plays an essential role in shaping the atmosphere. There is a real mix of people, from business professionals and creatives to regular groups of friends, across different ages, both local and international, all coming together with an easy sense of enjoyment. The occasional larger-than-life personality adds a touch of character, much like in Mykonos during its best years, making the Sunday party feel lively, spontaneous and genuinely memorable.
For now, Sea Satin Athens operates from Wednesday to Sunday, but from April it will be open daily, from lunch through to late evening. Personally, I am looking forward to the warmer months, when all of this energy moves outdoors. Right by the water, whether for a relaxed early dinner and sunset drinks during the week, or for full weekend party vibes, the experience shifts up another level!
