The quality of the house’s ties stems from a rare balance between traditional hand craftsmanship and innovation. Although Italo Ferretti passed away four years ago, the house continues its exceptional production, supported by the fact that it remains a family-run company. Over the years, a number of proprietary techniques and patents have been developed, helping to establish the brand on the global stage.
Among them is the Balanced Tie, a specially engineered interlining that ensures perfect balance and stability when worn. The Anti-Crease Seam is a construction detail designed to prevent the fabric from wrinkling or collapsing beneath the collar. Then there is the Navetta, a fabric loop with a buttonhole on the reverse, allowing the tie to fasten discreetly to the shirt and remain precisely in place throughout the day.
Even details that may appear “imperfect” at first glance, such as the deliberately loose hand stitching at the tip, are hallmarks of artisanal construction. Far from being decorative, they serve a functional purpose, ensuring that the tie falls straight and retains its line once the knot is tied.

Bespoke ties
Craftsmanship, respect for tradition, contemporary technology and refined style are the guiding principles of the Ferretti house. The finished product is the result of multiple stages of production, all considered equally important, down to the hand-finished packaging.
Ferretti is arguably unique in that, for each tie, as much as 40 per cent additional fabric is cut and used during construction, including the interlining. Each tie carries an individual numbering, underscoring its uniqueness while also indicating its place of manufacture and origin. The house has also enjoyed a long-standing collaboration with Brioni, a partnership that played a significant role in establishing Ferretti’s international reputation in the world of luxury menswear.
Clients may also design their own bespoke tie in collaboration with the house’s experienced tailors and design team, choosing from thousands of silk fabrics and colourways. For those seeking something more daring, particularly for special occasions, there are even unique designs embellished with Swarovski crystals. Whether intended as a gift or not, these creations can be presented in hand-crafted silk boxes, made exclusively for Ferretti. Alongside ties, the house offers an extensive range of bow ties, pocket squares, scarves, shawls and shirts. All can be personalised and made to order, carrying the same attention to detail and the client’s own signature.
Seven-fold construction
Even among the house’s ready-to-wear offerings, every Ferretti tie is handmade, entirely in Italy, with no automated processes involved. This approach ensures the meticulous attention to detail for which the brand is known, and makes each piece genuinely unique.
Only the finest materials are used, including 100 per cent silk, exceptional-quality cashmere and wool, all sourced from certified producers and selected for their handle, durability and performance. Many of the house’s ties belong to the coveted seven-fold category. This means they are constructed from a single, large piece of silk fabric, folded seven times to create the finished tie.
The method requires almost three times as much fabric as even the highest-quality lined ties produced by luxury houses, resulting in exceptional structure, natural weight and a clear sense of refinement. It is precisely this level of craft and knowledge, built over decades, that has elevated this small, family-run Italian house to its current standing, earning the trust and admiration of clients around the world.
